Anything
that can be patented as a U.S. Utility Patent is
covered in the System. There are three types
of U.S. Patents: Utility, Design, and Plant.
A
Utility Patent covers the construction
and function of virtually anything, and
is the main type of patent. Utility
Patents cover almost all man-made
products, processes,
chemicals, circuits, and everything in
between.
A Design Patent only covers the
non-functional appearance of something.
Non-functional appearance includes elements such
as the shape of a clock, where its shape is
for looks only and doesn't serve a function.
A
Plant Patent covers new hybrids of
plants.
Utility Patents are covered in the System, while
Design and Plant Patents are not. |
